Client-run, drop-in center for past, present and possible recipients of mental health services. Support community for people who often feel isolated; a self-help healing service. Information, referral and advocacy. Informal socializing, special groups, social and recreational events, peer counseling. Serves snacks. Confidential 24-hour telephone crisis, counseling and referral service. Crisis line, speakers bureau, public education, community crisis disaster line and grief counseling project. Special component of grief counseling is senior outreach. Telephones staffed by trained volunteers under professional supervision. Formerly known as Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention Services of Alameda County. Cost: Free to call crisis line; sliding scale for therapy group; low-cost grief counseling.

AIDS prevention and outreach to injection drug users: exchange syringes, distribute condoms, cotton balls, alcohol wipes, bleach and AIDS prevention information, including listings of HIV test sites and recovery programs. Runs an exchange site at San Pablo and Hearst on Thurs 6-8pm and an AIDS prevention table. Available to speak to media and government. Cost: Free.
