BERKELEY EMERGENCY FOOD AND HOUSING PROJECT

Serves a hot, nutritious meal Monday-Friday at 4:45pm. All in need are welcome. Multi-service center (at Church), M-Th 10-12. Advocacy, information and referral on jobs, shelter, legal problems; on-going counseling (M-W 10-12). Emotional support, limited shelter offered (M-Th 10-2, F 10-noon). Accepts donations of fresh or nonperishable food (no small cans or processed food); blankets, linens and bath towels and personal care items [donations accepted at 2140 Dwight Way]. Cost: $.25 meal tickets sold at 4pm, or work for meal. Wheelchair accessible. Children and disabled people needing assistance at meals are advised to come before 4pm. Contact: 841-2789. BERKELEY FOOD PANTRY

Provides two- to three-day food packages to serve emergency needs of persons referred by appropriate Berkeley community service agencies. People may receive three referrals in six months. Funding for the Pantry is provided by the Berkeley church community. Eligible: Berkeley residents only and must be referred by approved Berkeley community service agency (Alameda County Welfare, Berkeley/Oakland Support Services, Free Clinic, Red Cross, veterans organizations, Salvation Army or any Berkeley church pastor). A last resort when all other assistance programs and methods have been exhausted. Clothing vouchers (by referral only), food vouchers, limited shelter vouchers (call first) and other assistance as funds are available. Tutoring and mentoring program. Need must be established and documented (including proof of family size and rent receipt). Referrals from other agencies must be called in or written on agency letterhead and signed.
